Masses in Honor of Saint Francis

First Mass

1. Introita

The mouths of the just speak wisdom and their lips say what is right; the law of their God is in their heart. Do not fret because of the wicked; do not envy those who do evil. Ps 37:1 [Vulgate, Ps 36:1]
v/. Glory be . . .

2. Prayer [Collect]

God, by the merits of blessed Francis you enlarge your Church with the birth of new offspring. Grant, that by imitating him we may look away from everything on earth, in order to enjoy forever sharing the gifts of heaven. Through our Lord . . .

3. Epistle
(Gal 6:14-18)

A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Galatians:
Brothers, God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom the world is crucified to me and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And whosoever shall follow this rule, peace on them and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth let no one be troublesome to me; for I bear the marks of the Lord Jesus in my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.

4. Gradual

You came to meet him with the blessings of success; you have set on his head a crown of pure gold.
