Liturgical Texts for the Feast of the Stigmata of Saint Francis - 668

Responsories:

  1. R/ While Francis bursts
    with Seraphic flames
and for the sufferings of Jesus
    bravely sighs,
    Jesus appears with hands extended,
    as if on the Cross.

V/    Covered with Seraphic wings,
beautiful and shining,
he is without any spot.

  1. R/ Francis is filled with joy
    at the presence of the
    crucified redeemer,
because of his tears of sorrow
    he receives the burning flames
of the highest love of Jesus.

V/    From the inflowing of the Seraph
and the brightness in its limbs
is the honor of Francis.

  1. R/ Once that same vision disappeared,
Francis remained and there, pictured on his flesh,
    were those glorious five marks.
    That wondrous godly picture
    is truly made, not false.

V/    The feet, the hands, the side
shine like a wondrous lily,
and the suffering flesh gleams.

Third Nocturn:

Antiphons:

  1. The flesh of Francis then shone
    to our great astonishment;
    at Jesus’ gift it gleams
    clearly through the stigmata.
