Liturgical Texts for the Feast of the Stigmata of Saint Francis - 667

  1. R/ Francis, as he meditated
    the single deeds of Jesus,
    examined His Passion
    with careful attention,
The Cross was his heart's food,
    in which he delighted.

V/ His Cross the rule of life,
His Cross the heart's small cell,
in the Cross he boasted.

  1. R/ Francis strove to conform himself
    to the deeds of Jesus,
    and for Him, overseas,
    exposed himself to death;
    and the merciful Jesus decided
    to make him like Himself.

V/ His Cross frequently shining forth,
To him the Crucified appeared,
wishing to sign him beforehand.

Second Nocturn:

Antiphons:

  1. Jesus made wondrous
    Francis His servant
above all the throng of saints
    when He stigmatized him.
  1. Francis in the morning stood
before Jesus on Mount La Verna,
    Jesus gave to him
    gifts for eternal praise.
  1. Francis wondrously makes
the name of Jesus shine out
as the sign of Jesus nobly
appears in the flesh of Francis.
